Vekkie's Heart is so perfect that she can use it to warm the dose of insulin, in the syringe, of course, to the perfect temperature for any dog!
But sometimes, she's not right at hand. If she's not, then I have to warm Kumbi's insulin myself. Luckily, I don't mind doing that. It's one of the joys of making sure Kumbi stays really comfortable, right through the injection.
To warm the insulin, I tuck the syringe into my armpit. It took me some practice, since my armpit is a bit scrawny, to get this right. I found if I place my index finger against the syringe barrel, right up close to the now re-capped needle, over the insulin dose, then, wearing clothes that are a bit loose at the neck, I duck my hand down from my neck, under my clothes, and touch the barrel where my index finger is right to the nearest fold of my armpit. Then I clamp down with my armpit over the capped-needle and barrel of the syringe, while cradling the rest of the barrel and the plunger in my other hand, so my clothes won't shift the plunger around.
This is where I like my CalendarScope computer program, or rather, its associated free program, which is called DS [Duality Software] Clock. I have this DS Clock on my screen, displaying hours, minutes and seconds. My vet said to warm the insulin for about fifteen seconds, but it seems to take me, sometimes, as long as thirty seconds, perhaps because my armpit is so scrawny.

I also use Calendarscope to set off alarms for feeding-time and insulin-time! I set them up as "tasks" that I have to check or tick off, and if I don't do that, the computer keeps talking to me until I do!
While I've been nattering away, the insulin dose has been warming in the syringe, so now it's time to find out whether indeed the dose is warm enough.
