I feed at 6:20 a.m. and p.m., and give insulin at 7 a.m. and p.m.

This first list is a full curve, taking readings every two hours, starting before food in the morning, and finishing before insulin in the evening.

Here, and on 31 May also, I'm taking morning and evening readings just before feeding, and just before giving insulin. To those two pairs of readings, I'm adding my attempt to identify Kumbi's spproximate lowest glucose for the day. (This time is sometimes termed the "nadir," or "trough.," The idea is to know just how low he's dropping, because it's the low-glucose for the day that determines what the insulin dose should be - to avoid hypoglycemic episodes. Of course, the highs are important, too, but it's dangerous to allow a dog to slip into hypoglycemia (too-low glucose), but being too high in glucose can be managed in some way, without endangering the dog.

Nadir-time varies individually with each dog, and with insulin, food and exercise as well. Other conditions can also affect nadir-time.

  1. 06:31 - 16.5 mmol/L = 297 mg/dL (fed; 06:31)
  2. 07:01 - 20.1 mmol/L = 362 mg/dL (Novolin-NPH; 6.5 iu, 07:01)
  3. Walk - mod-brisk pace; mod-high excite (chats, catscent); 09:48-10:27 (39 min)
  4. Walk - mod-brisk, light drizzle; low excite; 14:32-15:06 (34 min)
  5. 15:31 - 7.6 mmol/L = 137 mg/dL
  6. 17:00 - 12.6 mmol/L = 227 mg/dL
  7. 18:30 - 23.8 mmol/L = 429 mg/dL (fed; 18:30)
  8. 19:01 - 27.1 mmol/L = 488 mg/dL (Novolin-NPH; 6.5 iu; 19:01)

This set of readings is again partial. I'm trying to catch Kumbi's low-time of the day, as well as to determine how high he is going.

  2. 07:01 - 25.4 mmol/L = 458 mg/dL (Novolin-NPH; 6.5 iu; 07:01)
  3. Walk - mod pace; low excite; 10:33-11:25 (52 min)
  4. Walk - mod pace; mod excite - met neighbor and dog; 14:37-15:19 (42 min)
  5. 15:31 - 9.3 mmol/L = 168 mg/dL
  6. 17:04 - 8.8 mmol/L = 159 mg/dL
  7. 18:31 - 7.8 mmol/L = 141 mg/dL (fed; 18:31)
  8. 19:01 - 12.5 mmol/L = 223 mg/dL (Novolin-NPH; 6.5 iu; 19:01)
